Terrible Truths Shared by the Williams Lake First Nation
The recent announcement by the Williams Lake First Nation of 93 unmarked burial sites discovered at the former Williams Lake, St. Joseph’s Mission Residential School adds to the terrible truths of missing children buried at other former residential school sites in B.C. and elsewhere in Canada.
We acknowledge the impacts of these truths on Indigenous families, staff and students in School District No. 27 Cariboo/Chilcoten and on our own Indigenous families, staff and students in School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake) as well as Indigenous families and communities across our province and country. Our hearts are with you.
Anyone who needs support or resources can find more information on our Aboriginal Education website's Residential School Resources page.
In schools, we are continuing to do our best to tell the truths, create brave spaces of sharing, and bring awareness to all.
