Ms. B would like to invite all families of the grade 10 Social Studies class and beyond to support our students this Thursday night at 7pm for the Langham's screening of Indian Horse, based on the novel by Richard Wagamese.
In Social Studies 10 this year we have focused on the impacts of colonization in Canada and as a result our class organized this event in hopes that it would promote Truth and Reconciliation in our community.
In the spirit of reconciliation, the proceeds of the film will be donated to the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada, a non-profit organization that started in Squamish, BC. Their mandate is to, "provide research, policy, professional development and networking to support First Nations child and family service agencies in caring for First Nations children, youth and families." Admission is $10 at the door and there will be a small concession stand with food and drink served by our students.
The film is rated 14A and we would like to make it clear that there will be some sensitive subject matter as the film sheds light on Canada's legacy of Residential Schools and the impacts that has on individuals and families.
We really hope you can make it out to support our students in organizing this event!
If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
All the best,
Kaslo, BC ... See more
