Check Out the Awesome: JVH

We are thrilled about the creation of our school's new Grandmother Drum. We were fortunate to have traditional knowledge keepers and teachers join us for two days of learning with students how to build and awaken a big drum, according to teachings from their communities.
On March 5, we worked with students from the high school to soak hides, punch holes, and string and frame our beautiful big drum. There was a lot of laughter and fun on this day! The Foods teacher and class provided bannock tacos for everyone's lunch as well.
On April 22nd, the knowledge keepers joined us to awaken our drum. All students from the high school who participated in creating the drum were invited along with Intermediate Ab Ed students. We participated in ceremony that included giving the drum some food and water, and drumming and singing songs together to wake up this drum.
We are very excited to have this new Grandmother Drum in our school and are looking forward to learning some songs together!
