November 8th is a day marked to honour the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to the Canadian Military.
"Did you know that First Nations served in the Canadian Military at a higher rate than any other group in this great nation? More than 4,000 Indigenous people served Canada in the First World War. In fact, First Nations, Inuit and Métis people served Canada in all the great conflicts and peace support missions of the 20th century." (source).
As we enter the fall season, I hope that you and your family are maintaining a sense of health and happiness, and navigating this current wave of illness moving through our community. I witnessed first hand the effects of being unwell for the first time in 3 years when I went down for 6 days last week with a nasty bug. Now as others on our team, and in our school population are also experiencing illness, it invites in each of us the opportunity to extend our compassion outward into the world.
It's hard to believe the first month of school is almost over, but here we are with October on the horizon. It has been a very successful startup from our perspective, with staff and students busily getting themselves organized for all sorts of learning opportunities. Here is a rundown of all you need to know
Greetings Parents, students and community members!
Over the past few weeks, there has been a lot of activity in our schools preparing for the arrival of students next Tuesday and the excitement of another school year. I am very excited to be serving in the role of Acting Principal for JVH/Jewett for the coming year, and have been very grateful for the connections and partnerships that I've made with you all so far.
We will have our Welcome to Kindergarten Event on Thursday May 26th at 1:45.
Any family who is considering Kindergarten at JVH for September is welcome and encouraged to attend. We will have an orientation, a tour of our beautiful school, and an activity with our Kindergarten teachers Ms. Pollick and Ms. Leathwood.
